Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
