Chelsea Manager Maresca Rejects Man City Links as Pure Gossip
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has branded fresh talk linking him with a return to Manchester City as "100% speculation".
The Italian manager, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's right-hand man at the Etihad, addressed the persistent rumours about his future.
Maresca, named Chelsea boss in June 2024, is under contract running through the end of the decade, with a possible extension option.
"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca said. "And at this moment, there is no time for such distractions."
He went on to explain, "First of all, because I have a contract here until 2029. And my focus, I have stated many times, is solely on this club and I'm very proud to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was linked with Juventus in Italy. So I ignore it because I know that is not true."
Chelsea, currently sitting fourth in the top flight, are set to face Newcastle United this Saturday in a 12:30 GMT fixture.
Strain Following Previous Remarks
Maresca's most recent comments come in the wake of he described a recent two-day spell as his "worst" since joining Chelsea.
Those original remarks had fueled considerable talk of a potential rift between the coach and the club's key decision-makers.
When asked if he had discussed matters with the club's leadership, Maresca replied, "We are in the same facility, so we talk about different things. But about the post-Everton media session, no."
The manager did confirm he would "absolutely" remain at the club next season and urged supporters to keep backing the team".
In brighter news, Maresca indicated that injured attackers Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could return ahead of schedule, potentially in contention for a match against Aston Villa on 27 December.

The perceived strain between Maresca and the Chelsea board persists as an unhealed issue that still create unease.
While there has been no further escalation of the matter in the open, there has equally been no resolution offered, creating the matter unresolved.
